| Sliding menu Buttons - general
iSlide Pro Sliding Buttons and iSlide Pro Expanding Buttons use 0, 1 or 2 graphics source files
to create the main applet appearance. If no image files are specified,
the applets create internal images. The two image files
which may be specified contain (i) bases, and (ii) overlays. An applet
implementation may only have one set of bases - if specified, these are copied
beneath the overlays, and are the same for every button or hook. Bases
are frequently quite detailed JPG files with the main artwork. The overlays
are normally simpler GIF files containing individualising markers for
each style of button or hook you want to use (e.g. "folder"-buttons which
click to open up further buttons). The overlay file contains an indefinite
number of sets of overlays (minimum 3) which are combined with the bases to
produce your buttons. The reasons for separating the files in this way are
bandwidth, speed and convenience - in all respects allowing you to get more
artwork to your site visitor for less effort, time and expense.
It is not necessary to use both a base and an overlay. In the resource
library you will find examples of graphics which may be used on their own
for different effects. You should also remember that not only the overlay,
but also the base recognise the transparent index you select. If part of
a base is transparent, the background image or background colour show through
to the top - an option which some designers use to great effect. You can also
use a tiling background image in combination with an overlay (but no base)
to create button effects - again there are some examples in the resource
library.
