| Tree menu: iTree Pro-XQ Powertree Search facility
- Setting up the search box
If the search facility is switched on, the search box and one or two
accompanying submit buttons will appear at the top of the applet.
There are parameters for
adjusting the position, size, fonts and colours of these components.
You can also customise the text labels prefixing the query box and
appearing on the button(s).
- Overview of functions.
The search facility can be defined to have 5 different functions
as follows.
- Search for next occurrence in current tab. The applet will search for
the next menu entry in the current tab which contains the search
string. If found, the next such entry will be centered and highlighted.
Folders may be opened (or closed) as necessary to view the entry.
- Extract all matches from current tab. All matches will be extracted
and placed into a newly constructed hierarchical list of results in a specified new tab. Information
about the search (such as number of results and search terms) may optionally be displayed.
- Search all tabs for next occurrence. If found, the next such entry will be centered and highlighted.
Folders may be opened (or closed) as necessary to view the entry. The search cycles through all tabs.
- Load new index. The search concept is tagged onto
the end of a URL you specify using the searchURL parameter. This
URL is then used to request a new index from the server. Typically the
URL will be a user-defined server-side script which dynamically generates
a new index based on the contents of the search box. The search box contents
don't need to be a search string - they could also be a user ID or password
generating an index specific to the user or their security level. The index
generated in this way is loaded into the tab specified by the searchtab
parameter.
- Display conventional search results. The search concept
is tagged into the end of a URL you specify using the searchURL parameter.
This URL is then used to generate an HTML search-results page using any typical
industry search engine on the server. The resulting HTML page is displayed in
the browser frame specified by the searchframe parameter. As above,
this facility could also be used to accept user ID's or passwords, rather than
search concepts.
